Absolutely Live è il primo album live pubblicato dal gruppo musicale rock statunitense The Doors nel luglio del 1970. Molti concerti furono registrati durante il tour del 1970 per creare il suddetto album.

Il produttore dei Doors, Paul A. Rothchild, editò accuratamente il disco prendendo i brani da molti concerti per creare un unico, perfetto concerto dei Doors. Nonostante questo, le sue successive affermazioni (“Ci saranno almeno 2000 tagli in quell’album”, intervista da BAM magazine, 1981) dimostrarono sin dal 1999 che era una clamorosa menzogna: la Bright Midnight (gruppo Rhino / Elektra / Warner) iniziò a pubblicare i master non tagliati degli spettacoli registrati per l’Absolutely Live tour (luglio 1969 – giugno 1970: Aquarius theatre 1969 4CDs, Live in New York 1970 6 CD, Boston 1970, 2 CD, Philadelphia 1970, 2 CD, Pittsburgh 1970, 1 CD, Detroit 1970, 2 CD).

Su 20 canzoni dell’originale album Absolutely Live, solo due hanno tagli: su Backdoor Man (da Felt Forum, 18 gennaio 1970, secondo spettacolo), uno spezzone di Love Hides proviene da Philadelphia, 1º maggio 1970 (nessun’altra registrazione professionale di Love Hides era disponibile, e per questo motivo Rotchild decise di includerla) e su Five to One (da Felt Forum, 17 e 18 gennaio 1970) solo un taglio di uno degli urli di Jim è stato aggiunto da un altro show delle medesime serate al Felt Forum (precisamente dal 18 gennaio 1970, primo spettacolo).

Questi documenti audio su CD permettono di ricondurre ogni singola canzone dell’album Absolutely Live ad ogni concerto registrato, dimostrando che le affermazioni di Rotchild sono solo esagerazioni fabbricate per creare un mito.
